laptop-detect software package provides attempt to detect a laptop, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install laptop-detect
laptop-detect is installed in your system.
Make ensure the laptop-detect package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep laptop-detect *
You will get with laptop-detect package name, version, architecture and description in a table
